A man was born in nineteen-sixty and died in nineteen twelve. How was this possible?

He lived from 1960 B.C.E. to 1912 B.C.E.

Remember that BC dates often feel backwards. For BC or B.C.E., the bigger the number the further back in time; for A.D. or C.E. the bigger the number the closer to us in time.

Here are two more riddles along the same line. Let me know which one you think is best...

Two men were born in the same year; both men died in the year ten, and yet one of the men lived to be twenty years older than the other. How was this possible?

Both men were born in the first century B.C. E.
One died in 10 B.C.E., the other died in 10 C.E.


A man was born in nineteen-sixty and died in eighteen eighty-two. How was this possible?

He lived from 1960 B.C.E. to 1882 B.C.E
So how old was he when he died?
78 years old.
